Davido vs Olamide vs Don Jazzy – Who Is The Biggest Record Label CEO In Nigeria Right Now?
Several record labels abound in Nigeria. Some are known and some record labels, we’ve probably not heard them.
Who knew there was a record label called G-Worldwide until they started churning out hits from Kiss Daniel.
There was no MMMG then if not for Iyanya
and gone are those days when artistes determine the success or
population of a record label or Now, it’s the combined efforts of the
Record label honcho and artistes under them.
To be candid, the biggest record label right now with lot of artistes and a successful CEO has to be between Mavin, DMW and YBNL.
1. Don Jazzy (Mavin)
If there’s a record label showing so much consistency over the last five years, it has to be Mavin.
And much credit has to go to Don Jazzy for pulling the strings. From transforming Mo Hits to Mavin and even after Wande Coal left, new artistes were signed and they’ve been at the top of the game.
Don Jazzy has to be appreciated for his input to the Music Industry
though, his strongest point has to come from his ability to harness the
talent of the artistes under him.
Tiwa Savage was a RnB artiste before always singing
about love issues and Don Jazzy understanding the trend the Music
Industry was taking, changed her music style from RnB to Pop and she’s
the Number one African female artiste right now.
What about Reekado Banks? We’ve got to pay homage to Don Jazzy for all these songs we’ve enjoyed so far. Ma Lo was a hit throughout last year, Like, Easy Jeje are outstanding hits also.
2. Davido (DMW)
When Davido said we rise by lifting others, we probably didn’t understand what he meant by that statement.
From 2016 till today, there’s no record label that has made the most signings apart from DMW. Dremo, Mayorkun, Yonda, Peruzzi, Idowest and of recent Sinzu have been signed.
What about Dammy Krane, Lola Rae and Ichaba who were affliates. While
Davido keeps on touring the world, he knows he has quality hands on
deck to manage the affairs of the record label.
That’s what is killing Starboy and other record labels with artistes as CEOs.
When Wizkid isn’t around, there’s no buzz or attention on the newly signed artistes. Apart from Soco, have we heard anything from Spotless or Terri.
But Davido has the best hands in Asa Asika and Vanessa Amadi who run things and keep the label active.
3. Olamide (YBNL)
Olamide has believe in the mantra of self sufficiency and being independent probably when he was a kid. Maybe that’s why he left Coded Tunes immediately he released his first album.
He was determined not to be a slave to anyone. And when he set up YBNL, he spread that gospel to his artistes.
Two years should be enough for you to achieve your goals and gave a good standing in the industry.
As Lil Kesh was leaving, Davolee was being brought in and as Adekunle Gold left, Limerick came in.
Beautiful strategy by Baddo. From the inception of YBNL, they’ve churned out hits and helped people who are talented.
Lil Kesh, Viktoh, Adekunle GOLD, Chinko Ekun, Davolee, Temmie Ovwasa are living testimonies.
There are also other label CEOs who were doing well at some point but are now malfunctioning.
Kiss Daniel and Emperor Geezy case
is worrying. Why kill yourself over an artiste when there are several
other talented artistes our there waiting to be signed. Move on!
Olamide, Don Jazzy and Davido have embraced the mantra of consistency and staying active. But
Which Of Them Has Done More So Far?
Who Really Is The Biggest Record Label Honcho Right Now?
Who Has The Most Influence And Also Who Has Worked Hard So Far?
